Your kitchen is likely to be the center of your home’s activity, so when you’re remodeling, be sure to start with a great overall design blending both form and function.
Once your kitchen’s main features are complete, don’t forget to accessorize with the right paint colors, cabinet knobs, lighting fixtures and all those little touches that are sure to make a difference.
Here are few key décor points to keep in mind:
- Blend finishes and textures. From the cabinetry and countertops to the window treatments and paint colors, every kitchen is a combination of dramatically different surfaces and textures. Pay attention to how they complement and contrast one another; ultimately, all of these elements have to harmonize into one cohesive whole.
- Pick out the perfect light fixtures. Make a statement with a beautiful combination of recessed lights, flushmount ceiling lighting, beautiful decorative pendants and chandeliers. The proper combination will create an alluring ambiance.
- Be creative with your backsplash. Use the backsplash to help tie your color scheme together, but don’t be afraid to use this opportunity to make a statement and think outside the box of just using tile. You can use a piece of artwork, use old antique tiles, or use mirrors creatively. The sky is the limit.
- Small details can have a big impact. Don’t forget all those little details. Wall art, decorative baskets, plates, trays, greenery. Decorate your display shelves with the unexpected. Try using candles, pictures, cookbooks in unusual ways. All these items, chosen properly, will enhance the overall appearance of your kitchen. Don’t forget to place everything properly as well. In general, wall art should be hung so that the center of the piece is at eye level. It should also be no more than seven to ten inches above the table. Try placing wall art in groups on the wall. Placing pieces in a rectangle, triangle, or circle helps to add more interest.
